Some Guys Just Know How To Make A Girl (Man, Woman, Child, Country) Feel Special

“Amelia —

I’m about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don’t want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign — every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it’s time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.

We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing…

All of this happened because of you.

Thank you,

Barack”

  1. Rosie

I am in tears everytime I think of it. Even if things turn out to be too hard and things go wrong, America has had this wonderful moment of achievement when everyone stood up and was counted. The nation can rightly feel proud…

  2. Norma

I’m still weepy, and to echo the words that got our new First Lady in trouble, proud to be an American again. I can even imagine returning there for retirement in things work out. And I think they will. So, what’s the European reaction, Amy?

But didn't you have one little thrilling moment there frankenslade, when you thought, damn, he wrote to ME – I know I did.I get the feeling people are truly happy for America Norma, and what it means for the rest of the world. Even the cynics have to acknowledge this moment. That is part of what is so moving Rosie, isn't it – the sense of people acting together, so rare.Robbie & kjfalk, thank you for celebrating with me. People ask if I miss being in America, this past week I have to say i did…

  4. Janet

Amy, as another American expat in the UK, last week’s events made me miss America, too. My British husband and I were up a good bit of the night, watching the returns come in on the BBC. Seeing Ted Koppel added to the homesickness a little – a real touch of the America of days gone by.What an exciting time for the USA! I can’t remember people feeling this optimistic since JFK…although my memories are a little vague about that era, as I was a youngster.Janet

Hey Amy,Just found your blog (link from jim marshall’s.) I am living in Greece so I celebrated in a time zone close to where you were – 2 hours later. I couldn’t help staying up all night and I kept calling my family in Chicago. My mom was in tears by lunch time. All the best. Look me up if you come to Greece – perkins.william@gmail.com. I would love to see you. Say hello to Michael for me.PS: I didn’t know your full name was Amelia or does only Barack get to call you that?
